Process by which millions of sperm are injected directly into the uterus to promote a more efficient meeting between sperm and egg.

Sperm are subjected to treatment in order to remove contaminating material and increase sperm motility and concentration.

The fertilization of the egg by the sperm occurs naturally in the fallopian tube and the resulting embryo implants in the uterus.
